Barley Bargain Soup

Ingredients

1 Soup Bone
2 qts water
1 1/2 tbs salt
2 tsp pepper
celery tops
1/2 Cup barley
3 cups coarsely chopped cabbage
1 cup sliced carrots
1 cup sliced celery
2 cups sliced parsnips
2 cups thinly sliced onion
1 12oz can tomato paste

Instructions

Place the bone, water, salt, pepper, and celery tops in kettle. Cover tightly and cook slowly for 1 hour.
Add barley and cook 1 hour longer.
Discard celery tops and bone.
Cut off meat from bone and return to kettle.
Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and cook 45 mins
